Reef Fishes of the Chagos by Mark Spalding "The Chagos Archipelago consists of a vast area of coral reefs, together with a few small islands. It is located at the centre of the Indian Ocean, midway between the continent of Africa and the great mass of islands of Indonesia. The five islanded coral atolls and numerous submerged atolls have been formed over millions of years, so that the atoll rims themselves are just the tips of spectacular underwater mountains. The open ocean around the Chagos atolls is thousands of metres deep, and their waters teem with fish."--excerpt page 1 |
